Mastering the general settings that govern your website
The General Settings are details that reflect on the whole website. You only need to set them once, but like every aspect of this website, you can edit them at any time, if you need.
General Settings
A good title and description can help to improve your search engine rankings. Search engines use the title and description tags to determine what your site is about and how relevant it is to a particular search query. By optimizing these tags with relevant keywords and phrases, you can improve your site’s visibility in search engine results pages, and also help users find you and understand your mission easier.
When creating your title and description tags, it’s important to keep them concise and relevant. Your title should be no more than 60 characters long, while your description should be no more than 155 characters long.
Fill in the title of the website. This title will appear in the browser tab, so use the name of your organization.
Add a short description of the website. This description will not be visible on the website but will appear in Google results below the link and every time someone shares this link on social media. Below is an example of how this description is displayed
Next, choose your default language and select the three mandatory pages from the drop-down menus that include all available pages: Front page, Privacy policy page, Terms & conditions page. Website Factory comes with available templates for Privacy policy page, Terms & conditions. Please review and adapt them.
Those pages are compulsory for any website, but don’t worry if you have not created them yet. You can save the changes (top right corner) and come back to this later.
Branding
The Branding section will shape the look and feel of the whole website. Start with the logo of your organization or project, then select the dominant color. Setting up the main color is one of the most important steps because it influences a lot the general look and feel of your website. Website Factory: NGO will do the rest - apply the dominant color to the headers, when appropriate, or use it as a highlighter for the pictograms or other graphic elements.
Main color
Many visual elements throughout the website depend on the main color (icons, separators, boxes etc). These elements borrow the main color and set it up in different intensities and tonalities to ensure visual consistency and accessibility to the website
If you don't know the code of the color you want to pick, there are free online tools that can help you find them, like this free Chrome Extension.
For Example, Commit Global's yellow color has the code #ffd20a
Logo
Your logo is the easiest way for people to recognize you. It represents your organization and once you set it up, we will showcase it at the top of the website, so that people always know whose website they are on.
You want people to easily identify your brand, so make sure you have a clear, good-quality image of your logo (a.png file is recommended).
Favicon
Don’t forget about the favicon - the small symbol that appears in the browser tab next to the website name.
Keep in mind that the favicon needs to be 16x16 pixels - use just the graphic part of the logo. If you don’t know how to do that, you can find several online tools that can turn a logo or an image into a suitable favicon.
